Class Research Project Introduction
This field seminar class required students to propose a research project related to one of the many topics we had previously studied during the semester. On March 26th, students took the day to go out into the field and collect relevant data for each research project. Sam and Clay analyzed urban gentrification as a result of the Atlantic Yards development project in downtown Brooklyn. Meghan took on the task of examining gentrification in street art in Williamsburg, Brooklyn by dissecting the demographic/land use patterns associated with these sites. Kelsey further studied the effects of street art in Williamsburg by conducting a series of personal interviews with local residents. Lindsay and Iain investigated different uses of public space in Manhattan and how these landscapes are implemented within the urban core. Hillary and Corrin explored the immigrant diversity on Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Heights, Queens. Finally, Laurel and Ben investigated The High Line as a public space and its ability to be a catalyst for Gentrification. Once back in Eau Claire, each group was then to analyze their field data to create a research project suitable for publication on this website. The subpages of this section provide further insight into the end products of each groups' hard work during the field seminar.
