Visual Evidence of Gentrification
Parking lots and luxury car parts stores were frequently observed in areas surrounding the High Line. The process of gentrification implies the influx of upper class residents. In New York City, owning a car is a luxury of those who tend to be upper class and wealthy. This observation promotes the idea of the presence of wealth in High Line neighborhoods.
Luxury apartments line the entire span of the High Line; further indication of gentrification.
Construction was taking place on every block of the High Line study area. Gentrification has led to the building of new apartment buildings and retail centers supported by the area's new residents.
